About 93 young graduates in the built environment and engineering fields are to be deployed to municipalities across the country for experiential training.

The graduates are part of the Young Graduates Programme of the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) programme which provides young graduates with work exposure.

The programme, over two to three-years, will provide young graduates with work exposure and structured mentorship through partnership with professional bodies towards registering as professionals in the fields of engineering, project and construction management, town and regional planning, geographic information system and environmental studies.

More than 90% of the young graduates are placed in the 55 low capacity municipalities that are receiving support from MISA to accelerate their Municipal Infrastructure Grant expenditure, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) said on Monday.

The new recruits include 46 civil engineers, 16 town and regional planners, 13 electrical engineers, 10 environmental scientists, seven project and construction managers and one geographic information systems practitioner.

CoGTA Minister Zweli Mkhize is set to have a briefing session and welcome the new graduates in Kempton Park this morning.
