Shoprite in Alex mall has a problem in dealing with food safety, their customers have been complaining about Shoprite selling foods that are out of date. Around January a resident bought a tin of fish from shoprite in Alex mall but only to find out that it has expired. The women notified us about the issues. Alex pioneer immediately contacted the shoprite to find out what went wrong in selling expired food.
It seemed that the store was aware of the expired food. We sent the head office an email address to find out that if they know the matter, but they didn’t and promised to investigated the matter. Shoprite head office took long time to reply and we decided to send another email, they replied us stating that they are busy with full forensic investigation into the cause. They promised to get back to us once the results are available but we couldn’t reach them after that.
Last week another person posted a picture on social media of a plastic found in bread. The women said she bought the bread at Shoprite at Alex mall while still fresh and hot but when she got home, she found a plastic inside the bread. The women took the bread to the shop where they offered her another two loaf of bread for free and gave her money back as a token to apologies.
Clearly this kind of matter has been continuing for quite a time now without anything being done to the shop. Another source who works in the shop said the shop also sells meat that has been cooked four days ago; they only reheat it and put it on shelves for the customers. The head office has not got back to us since we sent them an email regarding the current matter.
