Eskom is currently implementing Stage 2 load shedding which is expected to continue until 11pm tonight.

Due to a shortage of capacity, Stage 2 load shedding got underway at 9am on Friday.

“Eskom’s maintenance teams are working round the clock to return generation units to the electricity system,” said the power utility.

Friday’s rotational load shedding came down two notches from the Stage 4 load shedding South Africans have been experiencing.

Stage 1 calls for 1000MW, Stage 2 calls for 2000MW, Stage 3 calls for 3000MW, and Stage 4 calls for 4000MW to be rotationally load shed nationally at a given period.

Eskom appealed to customer to switch off geysers during the day as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand while also reminding customers to treat all electrical points as live during load shedding.

Customers were also advised to keep checking their load shedding schedules on the Eskom or their municipal websites.

For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za). Eskom customers can also contact our customer contact centre on 0860 037 566.
