Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 22 May 2019

During the by-elections contested yesterday in Gauteng and the North West provinces, the African National Congress (ANC) retained its two seats it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections.

The new ANC councillors are:

  • Phikisile Elizabeth Masina in Ward 84 in Ekurhuleni Municipality – EKU. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 67.95% of the votes cast compared to 77.59% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 31.10%.
  • Gontse Molotsi in Ward 12 in JB Marks Municipality – NW405. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 88.93% of the votes cast compared to 82.66% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 54.89%.
