A last 16 game between Mamba XI and Mighty Birds was disrupted by angry fans on Sunday at rotary ground in Alexandra.
The Maimane Alfred Phiri Games 2019 editions have been on field from 26-27 May and there’s never been any disruption of the game.
In a statement released on their Facebook page they said:
On Sunday the 7th of July MAP Games LOC scheduled a match between Mamba 11 and Newcastle Home Boys to be play at Rotary ground A in Alexandra for 15:00 Kick off in the round of 16.
Around the 75th minute of the match whilst the score was 1-1 the match official in consultation with the LOC took a decision to abandon the match for safety reasons due to crowd unruliness. Unfortunately we can not identify if those supporters belong to either of the teams who were playing at the time, so those supporters belong to MAP Games.
The situation has put the games in an embarrassing situation as this is the first time in 19 years that a match could not carry on.
After consultation with several stakeholders and lengthy discussions the LOC is glad to announce that the match will restart on Saturday 13 July 2019 to kick off at 8:00 at Rotary ground A.
The match will restart with the same players who were on the field when the match was abandonded. The RED CARD stands!! The match will play from the 75th minute till the end.
