South Africa’s estimated population now stands at 58,8 million, according to Statistic South Africa’s (Stats SA) latest figures.
The data is part of the 2019 mid-year population estimates released on Monday.
The figure has grown from 57.7 in 2018.
Gauteng remains the most populated province in the country with 25.8% of the country’s total population. While 19.2% live in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the data, 63.9% of South African are aged 34 years and younger with 9% of the population being 60 years or older.
Life expectancy for females remains higher than their male counterparts, at an age of 67.7 years. The average gap in life expectancy between both genders is 6 years.
