Police minister Bheki Cele addressed media at Alexandra police station on Sunday 19 November after the community marched to the police station on Thursday following the death of Samantha Radebe-Mathane, who was allegedly caught in a shoot-out between the police and criminals from a reportedly hijacked vehicle.
Speaking to media Cele asked the community to remain calm as the case was being investigated by police watchdog Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
“There were three firearms on the scene; one firearm is of the colleague of Kganyago, and one for Kganyago and one is the firearm alleged to have been found in the car that was hijacked.” Said Cele.
The police officer accused by the community of killing Radebe will remain in his position for now.
Radebe-Mathane was killed a month after her wedding, which happened in December 2019.
