ENS Africa, the pro bono office based in Alexandra have moved their offices from San Kopano to Alex Mall. The biggest law firm in Africa cited crime as the other reason to move their offices.
Last year October an attorney from Sandton coming to Alexandra to do his lawyer duties was attempted to be mugged by criminals when in self-defense shot one of the thugs.
A number of stakeholder including ADAPT, Bokamoso Youth Centre, Khulisa, ProBono.Org, Small claims court Alexandra, Traditional Healers Association Alex and South African Federation of Mental Health attended the reopening of the pro bono offices on Friday 24 January at ENS’ new offices shop no. Alex Mall.
ENS is a pan African law firm that has offices in different parts of Africa including Ghana, Krnya, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwana, Uganda and South Africa. The firm has over 600 practitioners. There’s only two pro bono offices, in Mitchell’s Plain & Khayelitsha which was opened in 2005 and Alexandra which was opened in 2008.
The focus is on the poor, marginalized and vulnerable as the pro bono and corporate social investment is an integral part of their core functioning.
The offices open 08:30 to 15:30 weekdays. Legal consultations is offered on these matters: Banking and Finance, contract law, family law, maintenance, employment law (a large part of their instruction), tax, intellectual property (trademarks and copyright law). There’s a segment on Alex FM every Thursdays between 12:00 to 12:30.
