Greater COSAS Alexandra has released a statement to shut down schools in the area on Monday 29 June 2020. In the statement they say pupils can’t be sent to school following a number of COVID-19 cases that have been reported at Alex schools.
Since the return of grade 7 and 12’s, Alex High, KwaBhekilanga, Dr Knak and Realogile are schools that reported coronavirus positive cases. It is not clear if the cases are from the staff members or the learners.
In their statement COSAS says “We are declaring a total shutdown to all the Schools including Primary schools.
We advice all learners in Alexandra to stay away from schools starting from monday until further notice. We are at war with an invisible enemy and in order to defeat this invisible enemy, learners must respond to the rules and regulations of the corona virus pandemic by staying at home.” Read the statement.
The shutdown of schools will come a week before more grades are welcomed back in the month of July. Grade R,1,2,3,6,10 and 11’s are said to return as of Monday 6 July.
“We have been sitting back for a long time pleading with the Government to take our Future seriously, and we are fed up, we believe that is time to take our lives and future into our own hands.” Said the statement.
