Half of Alexandra has been left without power, following fire at the Vasco da Gama switching substation in Tuesday 30 June.
According to the City Power statement it is suspected the substation experienced a trip after a suspected attempt to steal copper cables after which it blew up.
Section of Alex plunged to darkness are:
From 1st to 20th Avenue between Florence Mphosho / Vasco da Gama and Richard Baloyi street.
The fire was put out towards midnight on Tuesday evening and the station has been isolated from Marlboro Eskom source.
Work to fix the station commenced this morning because of the infrastructure still being hot and smoke in the chambers and underground being to much. Repairs are expected to be done between 10pm – 12am this evening if all goes according to plan.
