Members of the South African Police service Alexandra branch recorded a total of 5 cases of murder in less than 5 days from the 29 August to the 02 of September. However, according to the police Spokesperson Capt Stephen Malatji, these cases of murder are not linked to the looting incidents that took place in Alexandra recently.
In the early hours of 29 August around Selbourne an unknown 25-year African male was found murdered, shot twice on his head. A case of murder has been open however motive behind the murder is still unknown.
On the 01 August 2019 two cases of murder were reported the first incident occurred at Cnr London and 1st Ave next to Scrapyard where a male victim was attacked, robbed and shot dead. Suspects are still unknown.
Another incident occurred at a local Tavern located at 07th Avenue Cnr John Brand where a 25-year-old male was stabbed by his friend during a drinking spree. It is believed the victim tried to intervene when his friend assaulted his girlfriend, the victim was than stabbed on his right should immediately rushed to a nearby clinic, however the victim died on his way to the clinic. According to the Alexandra police the suspect was arrested and detained in Alex police cells.
In the early hours of Monday 02 September 2019, a 42year old male was found shot and killed in 3rd Ave next to 142 Alex. According to the police the bullet went through the victim’s armpit and the motive and suspect is still unknown.
On the same day around 05:00 am alongside 3rd Avenue and Boulevard Tsutumane an unknown young man whose age is still unknown was found murdered. The male allegedly suffered multiple injuries on his face and head.
The Police of Alexandra is pleading with the community of Alex to work hand in hand with the police to curb crime in the community.
