Monday 29 June COSAS Alexandra aimed to shut down the schools in the area following a number of COVID-19 cases. According to the statement released when they visited some of the schools police were already called by the dept of education to make sure learners weren’t distracted while in the class.
According to their statement when visiting East Bank High they were met by distruption in interactions and engagements with members of their community, learners and teachers due to harassment from the ‘Public Policing Force’.
But learners heeded the call in numbers and decided to return home,with only the Science matrics staying as they were scheduled for a Physical Sciences test.
At KwaBhekilanga they found learners not present which satisfied their mission,and there were reports from Realogile that allegedly 2 teachers tested positive and no learning was taking place. Also it was alleged that a leaner at Alex High tested positive for the virus and no school was taking place.
